LD Systems D1002 Dynamic Instrument/Vocal Microphone.

There are probably now literally hundreds of sub £50 microphones around, so how do you know which to pick? At The Noizeworks, the microphone 'anoraks' in our busy hire department have probably tested most of the budget microphones available in the UK. Whilst most of them sounded reasonable, many were let down by poor build quality, and soon began to take on a very 'beaten up' look, and some stopped working altogether.
One range of budget mics, however has stood out against the competition in this department and that's LD Systems range of dynamic vocal and instrument mics.
As well as sounding as good, if not better than microphones costing many times as much, they are also built to last, with heavy duty die cast blue/grey chassis and heavy guage mesh grilles.

The D1002 is an instrument or vocal dynamic microphone. This mic has the 'instrument type' flat style grille, although some vocalists do prefer this grill type. (see the D1001 for the spherical grille version)
It has a super-cardioid polar pattern offering excellent off-axis rejection resulting in maximum 'gain before feedback'. The suspended shockproof capsule offers minimal handling noise and further enhances durability.
The mic is supplied in an ABS case with thick foam lining and a nice quality rubberised mic clip with a 5/8" to 3/8" thread adaptor for use on virtually any mic stand.

Specifications:
Capsule Type: Dynamic
Element: Neodymium magnet capsule, transformer output.
Polar Pattern: Super Cardioid
Frequency Response: 50-16000hz
Sensitivity: -54dbV
Rated Impedance: 300 ohms
Dimensions: 52mm diameter x 165mm length
Net weight: 270g
Connetctor: 3 pin gold plated XLR.

Applications:
These microphones are suitable for many live sound instrument and vocal application but really shine in the close miking of guitar amps, for miking snare drums and tom toms and for brass/woodwind applications including saxes, trumpets and trombones, etc. Also acoustic pianos.
Probably not so good for miking acoustic stringed instruments such as classical guitars, etc, where a good quality discreet condenser mic would work better. Better mics are also available for bass instruments such as kick drums, etc, including LD systems own large diaphragm D1007.

If you require some professional, friendly, honest advice on live sound microphone types, uses and applications, then why not give one of our tame microphone 'anoraks' a call on 01708 523812!
